How Budlong climbed from page 2 to page 1 for MEP engineering searches with Kerkar Media SEO

Challenge

Six months ago, Budlong was barely visible for the core terms its buyers and recruits actually search. High-intent queries like 'mep design services', 'plumbing engineer', 'mep drafting services', and 'mep design firm' returned other firms on page one. Educational queries like 'what is mep engineering' and 'mep construction meaning' sat well outside the top 10, where almost no one clicks.

Solution

We mapped the full MEP search funnel, from explainer queries down to commercial service intent, then rebuilt and optimised the on-page targets for each cluster. That meant new and revised pages for MEP services, plumbing engineering, MEP drafting, sustainable design, fire protection, and the LAX Terminal 9 project, with internal linking that connected the explainer content into the services pages.

Results

• 20 new non-brand keywords entered Google's top 10, including 6 at position #1.
• Position #1 wins: plumbing engineer (500 vol.), mep design services (500), sustainable design principles (100), mep designers (20), modern fire protection (10), and mechanical plumbing engineer (10).
• Other commercial wins: mep design firm (250) at #2, mep electrical (150) at #4, and mep drafting services (300) at #7.

Challenge

Across the broader keyword footprint, Budlong's average Google position sat at 19.4 at the start of the engagement, the bottom of page two, where impressions rarely convert into clicks. Strong explainer pages on MEP roles and integrated services were ranked too deep to capture the traffic their topical authority deserved.

Solution

We prioritised pages by intent-to-effort, then improved titles, headings, on-page structure, internal linking, and content depth so Google could properly evaluate the existing material. The work focused on the pages doing the heaviest topical lifting: the MEP engineers roles guide, the integrated MEP services hub, and the LAX Terminal 9 project page.

Results

• Average Google position climbed from 19.4 to 11.7 in six months — page two to page one on average.
• Search impressions grew +59% (551,643 → 878,999); organic clicks grew +9% (2,975 → 3,230).
• Explainer wins: what is mep engineering moved from #3 to #1 (450 vol.), mep construction meaning jumped from #65 to #2 (350), mep industry from #55 to #1 (250), and lax terminal 9 from #38 to #9 (150).
